Stand aids — also known as standing aids, stand-and-raise hoists or standing hoists — support residents with some weight-bearing ability to stand safely from a seated position. They are widely used in care homes for bed to chair transfers, toileting and personal care, significantly reducing manual handling risk for care staff.

Trade2Care stocks both passive stand aids and active stand aids, including powered stand-and-raise hoists from Arjo, Oxford Healthcare and Invacare, as well as manual standing frames for residents with good upper body strength.

Types of stand aid

  • Powered stand-and-raise hoists — electrically operated; suitable for residents with limited weight-bearing ability
  • Manual standing frames — for residents who can actively participate in standing
  • Passive standing devices — resident is fully supported throughout

LOLER: Powered stand aids used for patient transfer are classified as lifting equipment and require thorough examination every 6 months. Book a LOLER inspection here.
