Standard electric profiling beds are the most widely used bed type in UK care homes, providing electric height adjustment and profiling in a robust, easy-to-use package. Suitable for the majority of residents and forming the foundation of most care home bedroom setups.

Trade2Care supplies standard profiling beds in 3-section (backrest and height) and 4-section (backrest, knee break and height) configurations from Drive Medical, Alerta and Wellell. Standard widths only — for wider/heavier residents see Bariatric Profiling Beds; for reduced height options see Low Profiling Beds.

3-section vs 4-section profiling beds

  • 3-section beds — backrest and overall height adjustment; suitable for most residential care residents
  • 4-section beds — adds knee break articulation; prevents the resident sliding down the bed; recommended for nursing care

All standard profiling beds are compatible with our full range of mattresses, side rails and accessories. Call 03452 999 999 for delivery and installation information.

Low Profiling Beds

Low-height electric profiling beds for most residential and nursing care settings. 3 & 4 section electric profiling. Compatible with all standard accessories.

Low profiling beds offer a lower minimum working height than standard beds — typically around 25–35cm — providing an intermediate option for moderate falls risk without the near-floor height of an ultra low bed.

Trade2Care stocks low profiling beds from Drive Medical, Alerta and Harvest. All beds feature 4-section electric profiling with backrest, knee break and full height adjustment.

Standard vs low vs ultra low — which is right?

  • Standard profiling beds — staff working height priority; low falls risk
  • Low profiling beds — moderate falls risk; lower minimum height
  • Ultra low profiling beds — high-dependency residents; near-floor level; see Ultra Low Profiling Beds

Extension kits including extended rails available — linked to specific bed models on each product page. Call 03452 999 999 for help selecting the right bed height category.

Ultra Low Profiling Beds

Ultra low electric profiling beds for care homes — lowering to floor level to reduce falls risk for high-dependency residents. Standard & bariatric widths.

Ultra low profiling beds are designed for residents at high risk of falling out of bed. Lowering to near-floor level — typically 15–20cm — dramatically reduces the height of any fall and is widely used in nursing homes and specialist dementia care as part of a comprehensive falls prevention strategy.

Trade2Care stocks ultra low beds from Harvest, Alerta, Drive Devilbiss and Wellell. All beds are 4-section electric with backrest, knee break and height adjustment. Compatible with crash mats, cot sides and most pressure care mattress systems.

Ultra low bed key features

  • Height range — typically lowers to 15–20cm; check exact minimum height for the model selected
  • Crash mat compatibility — confirm frame compatibility with your crash mat; see Crash Mats & Fall Prevention
  • Side rail options — full-length, half-length and quarter rails; see Extension Kits & Side Rails

Bariatric Profiling Beds

Heavy-duty bariatric profiling beds — SWL 250kg to 500kg. Wider sleep surfaces, reinforced frames. Ultra low, low & standard height options. Specialist bariatric care.

Standard profiling beds are not designed to safely support bariatric residents — placing larger residents on standard beds risks frame failure, mattress damage and inadequate postural support. Trade2Care stocks a dedicated bariatric range with reinforced frames, wider sleep surfaces and safe working loads from 250kg to 500kg.

Our bariatric range includes Harvest Woburn Community 1200, Alerta Lomond Bariatric and Drive Bradshaw Bariatric models, available in ultra low, low and standard height configurations. All beds are compatible with our bariatric pressure care mattresses and bariatric extension kits including extended side rails.

Bariatric bed specification checklist

  • Safe working load — select a bed rated above the resident's body weight with a comfortable margin
  • Bed width — measure the room and doorway before ordering
  • Mattress compatibility — confirm the bariatric mattress matches the bed frame width; see Bariatric Foam Mattresses
  • Extension kits — bariatric extension kits and extended rails available; linked to specific bed models

Specialist Profiling Beds

Rotating, stand-assist and chair-to-bed profiling bed systems for complex nursing and residential care needs. High falls risk or complex postural requirements.

Specialist profiling beds go beyond standard height and backrest adjustment to offer additional clinical functionality for residents with complex care needs. Trade2Care supplies rotating beds and chair-to-bed systems from Alerta and Apollo, including bariatric floor-level configurations, designed to reduce manual handling demands while improving resident outcomes.

Specialist bed types explained

  • Rotating beds — the bed surface rotates to tilt the resident into a sitting position at the edge of the bed, significantly reducing the manual handling effort required to assist the resident to stand
  • Chair-to-bed systems — the bed reconfigures to function as a chair, allowing the resident to be positioned in either a bed or chair position without transfer
  • Bariatric floor beds — ultra low height combined with bariatric weight ratings for residents with both high falls risk and increased body weight

Specialist beds are typically specified by an occupational therapist or manual handling lead. Call 03452 999 999 to discuss requirements and arrange a demonstration if needed.
