Standing and transfer slings are used with active standing hoists and stand-assist devices — not passive mobile hoists — for residents who retain some weight-bearing capacity. The sling supports the resident as they move from a seated to a standing position, reducing the manual handling effort for care staff while encouraging the resident's own muscle engagement.

Key differences from passive slings

  • The resident must be able to bear at least some weight through their legs
  • Designed for use with a standing hoist only — do not use with a passive mobile or ceiling hoist
  • Wrap-around belt design holds the resident at the chest and back during the sit-to-stand movement

Clinical suitability

Standing sling use requires a documented assessment confirming the resident has sufficient weight-bearing ability and cognitive capacity to participate in the lift. Not suitable for residents with significant lower limb weakness, pain, or who are fully dependent. Call 03452 999 999 for advice on suitable standing hoist and sling combinations.
