Every UK care home is required to have a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) in place for all residents who cannot self-evacuate. Evacuation equipment types

  • Evacuation sheets (sledge sheets) — resident placed on the sheet and slid down stairs; smooth underside reduces friction; suitable for most stairwells
  • Evacuation chairs — stair-descent chairs; tracks on the rear allow controlled descent down stairs; suitable for ambulant residents who cannot walk
  • Bariatric evacuation equipment — higher weight ratings for larger residents; wider sheets and reinforced carry poles
  • Emergency carry sheets — for flat surface evacuation; carry handles

PEEP compliance
