Mobile patient hoists are an essential piece of moving and handling equipment in any care home, nursing home or residential setting. Unlike fixed ceiling track systems, mobile hoists offer the flexibility to move between rooms and adapt to changing resident needs — making them the most practical choice for most care environments.
At Trade2Care, we supply mobile patient hoists from the UK's leading manufacturers including Arjo, Oxford Healthcare and Invacare. Every hoist we stock is LOLER compliant and CE marked — meeting the mandatory requirements for lifting equipment used in care homes under UK health and safety law.
Safe working loads from 140kg to 300kg+, including bariatric options for residents requiring higher weight capacity. All models are compatible with a full range of patient slings — universal, toileting, bathing and amputee — available in our Patient Slings collection.
What to consider when choosing a mobile hoist
- Safe Working Load (SWL) — always select a hoist rated above the resident's body weight
- Base width — wider bases provide greater stability; check compatibility with room layouts
- Battery life — essential for high-use environments; check charge time and cycle count
- Sling compatibility — confirm the hoist works with your existing sling inventory before purchasing
All hoists are subject to LOLER thorough examination every 6 months. Our engineering team provides nationwide inspection and servicing — book a LOLER inspection here.

Ceiling Hoists
Overhead ceiling track hoist systems for care homes — fixed, portable and H-frame configurations from leading manufacturers. Reduce manual handling risk and improve resident dignity with a permanent overhead lifting solution.
Ceiling hoists — also known as overhead patient hoists or ceiling track hoists — provide a safe, permanent lifting solution for care home bedrooms, wet rooms and communal care areas. Unlike mobile hoists, ceiling track systems free up floor space and remove the need to manoeuvre equipment around the room, making them ideal in smaller spaces or high-dependency environments.
At Trade2Care we supply fixed ceiling track systems, portable ceiling hoists and H-frame freestanding systems from Arjo, Oxford Healthcare, Invacare and other leading manufacturers. All systems are LOLER compliant and CE marked, compatible with a full range of patient slings.
Types of ceiling hoist available
- Fixed straight track — installed between two walls, ideal for bed to wheelchair transfers
- Curved and XY track systems — full room coverage, movement in multiple directions
- H-frame freestanding — no ceiling fixings required, can be repositioned as needs change
- Portable ceiling hoists — flexible option where permanent installation is not possible
All ceiling hoist systems must undergo LOLER thorough examination every 6 months. Our engineers provide nationwide inspection — book here.

Bariatric Hoists
Heavy-duty bariatric patient hoists with safe working loads from 250kg to 500kg — in stock at trade prices. Suitable for residential care, nursing homes and specialist bariatric settings across the UK.
Bariatric patient hoists are designed for residents where a standard hoist would exceed its safe working load. Selecting the correct bariatric hoist is a legal requirement under LOLER — the equipment must be rated above the resident's actual weight with an appropriate safety margin. Trade2Care stocks bariatric hoists with SWLs from 250kg to 500kg.
Our range includes bariatric mobile hoists and bariatric ceiling hoist systems from Arjo, Oxford Healthcare and Invacare. All are LOLER compliant, CE marked and designed for daily use in residential and nursing care. Wider bases and reinforced mast structures ensure safe, stable lifting.
What to consider when choosing a bariatric hoist
- Safe Working Load — always select a hoist rated comfortably above the resident's weight, not at the limit
- Base width — bariatric hoists need more floor clearance; check room dimensions
- Sling compatibility — pair with a bariatric sling rated to the same SWL; see our Patient Slings
- Battery capacity — heavier lifts draw more power; check cycle count per charge
All bariatric hoists require LOLER thorough examination every 6 months. Book an inspection or call 01283 321 683.
Stand Aids
Passive and active stand aids for care homes — helping residents with reduced mobility to stand safely with minimal staff effort. From simple standing frames to powered stand-and-raise hoists — all major brands stocked.

Stand aids — also known as standing aids, stand-and-raise hoists or standing hoists — support residents with some weight-bearing ability to stand safely from a seated position. They are widely used in care homes for bed to chair transfers, toileting and personal care, significantly reducing manual handling risk for care staff.
Trade2Care stocks both passive stand aids and active stand aids, including powered stand-and-raise hoists from Arjo, Oxford Healthcare and Invacare, as well as manual standing frames for residents with good upper body strength.
Types of stand aid
- Powered stand-and-raise hoists — electrically operated; suitable for residents with limited weight-bearing ability
- Manual standing frames — for residents who can actively participate in standing
- Passive standing devices — resident is fully supported throughout
LOLER: Powered stand aids used for patient transfer are classified as lifting equipment and require thorough examination every 6 months. Book a LOLER inspection here.

Transfer Aids
Transfer boards, turning discs, transfer belts and sliding sheets — essential care home manual handling equipment. Reduce injury risk for staff and discomfort for residents during everyday transfers.
Transfer aids are the everyday manual handling equipment care home staff rely on for safe resident transfers without a hoist. The right transfer aid dramatically reduces musculoskeletal injury risk for staff and skin damage or discomfort for residents across common care tasks including repositioning, toileting and chair-to-chair transfers.
Trade2Care stocks a comprehensive range including transfer boards, turning discs, transfer belts and gait belts, sliding sheets and handling belts. Bariatric options are available across most product lines.
Transfer aid types and uses
- Transfer boards — rigid or flexible boards bridging two surfaces (e.g. bed to wheelchair); removes the need to lift
- Turning discs — rotating platforms allowing a resident to pivot without stepping; ideal for car and toilet transfers
- Sliding sheets — low-friction sheets placed under a resident to reduce effort when repositioning in bed
- Transfer and handling belts — worn around the resident's waist to give staff a secure grip during assisted walking or transfers
All transfer aids should be selected as part of a manual handling risk assessment in line with your care home's moving and handling policy. Call 03452 999 999 for advice on the right product.
